I am speaking to you at what I know is an increasingly challenging time. A time of disruption in the life of our country: a disruption that has brought grief to some, financial difficulties to many, and enormous changes to the daily lives of us all.

我知道此刻我们正面临一个挑战日益严峻的时期。这是一个让我们国家民众生活受到扰乱的时期：一些人经历了悲痛，许多人陷入经济困境，我们所有人的日常生活也发生了巨大变化。

I want to thank everyone on the NHS front line, as well as care workers and those carrying out essential roles, who selflessly continue their day-to-day duties outside the home in support of us all. I am sure the nation will join me in assuring you that what you do is appreciated and every hour of your hard work brings us closer to more normal times.

我要感谢在国家医疗服务体系NHS一线奋战的每一个人，感谢护理人员和坚守重要岗位的人们。他们无私奉献，为了保障我们所有人的生活，继续日复一日地外出工作。我相信所有民众都和我一样感激你们的付出，你们每时每刻的辛勤工作都让我们离回归正常生活更进一步。

I also want to thank those of you who are staying at home, thereby helping to protect the vulnerable and sparing many families the pain already felt by those who have lost loved ones. Together we are tackling this disease, and I want to reassure you that if we remain united and resolute, then we will overcome it.

我还要感谢那些待在家中的人们，你们这样做是在帮助保护弱势群体，避免更多的家庭遭受失去亲人的痛苦。我们正共同抗击这场疫情，我想向你们保证，只要我们戮力同心、果断行动，必将战胜疫情。

I hope in the years to come everyone will be able to take pride in how they responded to this challenge. And those who come after us will say the Britons of this generation were as strong as any. That the attributes of self-discipline, of quiet good-humoured resolve and of fellow-feeling still characterise this country. The pride in who we are is not a part of our past, it defines our present and our future.  

我希望每个人日后都能为今日抗击疫情付出的努力感到自豪，希望我们的后辈会说：这一代英国人坚强如昔；我们国家依然秉持着自律、含蓄、幽默、坚毅和富有同情心等品格本性。我们为我们的品格本性感到骄傲，不仅过去如此，现在和将来亦将如此。

The moments when the United Kingdom has come together to applaud its care and essential workers will be remembered as an expression of our national spirit; and its symbol will be the rainbows drawn by children.

当全英民众共同为医护人员和坚守重要岗位的工作人员击掌称赞的时候，人们将会铭记这样的时刻，视其为一种民族精神的体现；孩子们画出的彩虹将是民族精神的象征。

Across the Commonwealth and around the world, we have seen heart-warming stories of people coming together to help others, be it through delivering food parcels and medicines, checking on neighbours, or converting businesses to help the relief effort.  

在英联邦和世界各地，涌现出了很多守望相助的暖心故事——有人派送食物和药品、有人关怀问候邻居，也有人改变企业经营范围助力抗疫。

And though self-isolating may at times be hard, many people of all faiths, and of none, are discovering that it presents an opportunity to slow down, pause and reflect, in prayer or meditation.

尽管自我隔离有时很煎熬，但持有不同信仰以及没有信仰的人们都可能发现，这正是一个我们可以放慢脚步，停顿下来，在祈祷或冥想中进行反思的契机。

It reminds me of the very first broadcast I made, in 1940, helped by my sister. We, as children, spoke from here at Windsor to children who had been evacuated from their homes and sent away for their own safety. Today, once again, many will feel a painful sense of separation from their loved ones. But now, as then, we know, deep down, that it is the right thing to do.

这让我想起了1940年我在妹妹的帮助下第一次进行广播演讲时的情景。那时，我们还是孩子，就在温莎城堡这里，对那些出于安全考虑而被从家中撤离送往他处的孩子们讲话。今天，许多人将再一次感受到与挚爱之人分离的痛苦。但在内心深处，我们像当年一样明白这样做是正确的。

While we have faced challenges before, this one is different. This time we join with all nations across the globe in a common endeavour, using the great advances of science and our instinctive compassion to heal. We will succeed and that success will belong to every one of us.

尽管我们之前曾面临种种挑战，但这次的挑战却不同以往。现在，我们与全球所有国家共同努力，运用伟大的科技成果和源自本能的爱心，帮助人们病愈。我们将取得胜利，成功将属于我们每一个人。

We should take comfort that while we may have more still to endure, better days will return: we will be with our friends again; we will be with our families again; we will meet again.

我们应这样安慰自己：尽管我们可能还要经受更多的煎熬，但美好的日子终会回来：我们还将与朋友再会，与家人再聚；我们将会重逢。
