李焕英实火！

3.10经济学人上刚好有一篇对《你好，李焕英》的报道，我从中选取了三段，今天公众号“高斋外刊双语精读”就和大家一起读一读这几段的内容。比较简单，就大概分析下哈。

剧情介绍

原文：AFTER HER mother dies, Jia (Jia Ling) is magicallytransported back in time to 1981. She falls from the sky onto the pavement of the factory campus where her mother, Li (Xiaofei Zhang), was working at the time. Posing as a distant cousin, Jiabefriends her parent and attempts to change the course of her life. She encourages Li to marry a prosperous man so that she might be better off and produce a slimmer, more successful and moreeligible daughter. Jia had feared her flaws made her unworthy of her mother’s affection, yet in the end it becomes clear that Liloved her daughter dearly. 

高斋参考译文：贾晓玲（贾玲饰）在妈妈去世后，神奇地穿越到了1981年。她从天而降，掉落在妈妈李焕英（张小斐饰）当年工作的厂区的路上。贾晓玲谎称自己是李焕英的远房表妹，和妈妈成为了朋友，试图改变妈妈的人生轨迹。她鼓动妈妈嫁给一个有钱人，这样妈妈或许可以过得更好，还能有一个更苗条、更优秀也更合格的女儿。贾晓玲总是担心自己身上的缺点让她配不上妈妈的爱，但在影片最后很明显可以看出，李焕英很爱自己的女儿。

1. 熟词偏义：transport在这里不是“运输；传播”的意思，这里考察的是熟词偏义，表示“使身处他境”，后面常跟地点或者时间。

大家觉得这句“这一夜我们似乎远离了北京”怎么翻译？

张培基译《蟋蟀》是这样翻译的：

All the while, we were transported by nostalgia to our old home remote from Beijing.

be transported back in time是固定表达，意思是“回到过去”。注意，回到具体的地方或时间，介词是to。

2. 固定表达：pose as意思是“冒充；假装”。比如金融时报上这句：

An increasing number of them have even taken to posing as official Apple stores.

越来越多的店铺甚至喜欢把自己的店面装修成苹果官方专卖店的模样。

3. her parent：注意是单数parent，不是parents，所以翻译为母亲，不要翻译为父母。

4. Produce：可以作名词，表农产品，“帮助因封路而无法供货的农民”在华尔街日报上是这么说的help farmers unable to deliver produce due to roadblocks。

Produce作动词，可以表示生产，也可以表示培养。在提到培养老师的时候，经济学人有这样的表达：

“How can we produce top-class engineers when universities are constrained to offer salaries that can only attract mediocre staff?”

“大学的财力有限，提供的薪酬仅能吸引水平一般的教师，在这种情况下，我们如何能培养出一流的工程师？”

还比如外刊精读翻译班“第7篇外刊讲解笔记（上）：经济学人—数百万毕业生面临失业，政府也为此感到担忧”中这句：

Chinese universities produced a record 8.3m graduates this summer. That is more than the entire population of Hong Kong, and up from 5.7m a decade ago.

今年暑假，中国大学毕业生人数创历史新高，达830万，比香港总人口还多，而十年前，这个数字为570万。

5. Eligible：表示合格的，一般是be eligible to do sth或be eligible for sth，比如柯林斯词典中这两句：

Almost half the population are eligible to vote in today's election...

大约有一半人有资格参加今天的选举投票。

Only those over 70 are eligible for the special payment.

只有70岁以上的人才有资格领取这项专款。

这个单词还可以表示（作为结婚对象）合适的，中意的，如：

He's the most eligible bachelor in Japan.

他是日本最为抢手的单身汉。

6. Jia had feared：这里的fear是动词，后面是省略了that的宾语从句。 

7. flaw[flɔː] ：可以指什么东西的缺点、缺陷，如“体制缺陷”flaws in the system，也可以指（性格方面的）缺点，同义词是defect，如a flaw/defect in one’s character某人性格的缺点。

Her flaws指她的缺点/身上的缺点，反义词是her virtues，我们经常说“她的缺点和优点一样多”，就可以说：

Her flaws are as large as her virtues.

8. 固定搭配：unworthy of意思是不值得，不配。如unworthy of mentioning 不值一提。

9. love ... dearly意思是疼爱，珍爱。Dearly表示深深地。

看到这个，我想起了张璐翻译“亦余心之所向兮，虽九死其尤未悔”，张璐是这样翻译的：

For the ideal that I hold dear to my heart, I'd not regret a thousand times to die.

其中I hold dear to my heart是珍视的意思。

观众的感受

原文：At a time when many people have been separated from their families, the themes of grief and filial piety in “Hi, Mom” resonated. On social media, the #Photo Of My Mother When She Was Young challenge encouraged thousands of netizens to post snaps of their carefree family members. Some even went as far as to give their parents advice (“Don’t Marry Dad!”) while others gushed over the women’s beauty.

高斋参考译文：春节期间许多人和家人未能团聚，《你好，李焕英》呈现出来的“悲伤”和“孝道”主题让人们产生了共鸣。社交媒体上，在#妈妈年轻时的照片#这一话题下，有数千名网友晒出了幸福的家庭照。一些人甚至给妈妈提建议（“不要嫁给我爸！”），还有一些人对妈妈的美貌赞叹不已。

1. filial piety美[ˈfɪliəl ˈpaɪəti]：孝道，孝顺。

2. resonate美 [ˈrezəneɪt]：v. 表示产生共鸣。这个词在纽约时报双语：“流浪作家”三毛，撒哈拉、爱情和死亡中就有见过，复习一下：

One reason may be that her writing style resonates with a current generation that is accustomed to self-promotion and oversharing on Twitter and Instagram.

其中一个原因可能是，她的写作风格与习惯在Twitter和Instagram上自我展示和过度分享的这一代人产生了共鸣。

3. snap在这里是名词，（尤指抢拍的）照片，比如holiday snaps假日拍的照片。

4. 固定表达：go as far as to表示到……程度/地步。

5. 固定表达：gush over的意思是滔滔不绝地说，赞不绝口。如华尔街日报例句：

The reviewers almost universally gush over the simple experience of using the iPad.

测评者几乎全都对iPad的简单使用体验赞不绝口。

电影火爆的部分原因

原文：The industry was given a particular boost over Chinese New Year since many large private companies and state-owned enterprises did not allow their employees to travel as a precaution against the spread of the coronavirus. That meant that millions of people were separated from their families over the holiday, with little else to do but go to the movies or go out to eat. It appears they did both—restaurants also did a roaring trade in the same period. 

高斋参考译文：为预防疫情传播，过年期间许多大型私企和国企限制员工离开工作所在地，电影行业得到了极大提振。这意味着数百万人春节期间和家人不能团聚，这些人没什么别的事可做，只能出去看看电影，吃吃东西。看来这两件事他们都做了，因为那段时间饭馆生意也十分火爆。

1. ... be given a boost表示推动，提振。主动形式是give ... a boost。比如金融时报这句：

The sales of Brown's book were given a boost by an unprecedented price war.

空前的价格战提振了布朗新书的销量。

give ... a boost在CATTI和MTI备考资料中很常见，如报告中这句：

我们倡导的共商共建共享原则，以及政策沟通、设施联通、贸易畅通、资金融通、民心相通的“五通”理念，有力促进了全球互联互通合作。

Guided by the principle of consultation and cooperation for shared benefits and by enhancing connectivity in the five priority areas of policy, infrastructure, trade, finance and people-to-people ties, the BRI has given a strong boost to international cooperation on connectivity.

2. 固定搭配：as a precaution against是固定的搭配，意思是预防……。经济学人上有句话是这么说的：

Nonetheless, the town has been evacuated as a precaution against further landslides.

然而，整个城镇为预防后发泥石流灾害而已经全部撤离。

3. 语法分析：with little else to do but go to the movies or go out to eat是with结构作伴随状语；注意后面是but go，没有to，这是因为英语中有一个“有do无to”原则，也就是but前面有do后面的do（go）前面无to。

4. 固定表达：do a roaring trade是固定表达，意思是“生意兴隆/红火”。比如金融时报上这句：

Indian pharmaceutical companies are doing a roaring trade in Africa.

印度的制药企业在非洲也生意兴隆。
