久居城市的人，总以为乡间只有半年的时间值得欣赏。

1. inhabitant [ɪnˈhæbɪtənt] n.（某地的）居民，栖息动物。如外研社英语同义词辨析词典上有这么一句话：

He is an inhabitant of Beijing.

他是北京的居民。

2. landscape [ˈlændskeɪp] n.（陆上，尤指乡村的）风景，景色；乡村风景画；乡村风景画的风格；（文件的）横向打印格式。如牛津词典上有这么一句话：

The beauty of the landscape overwhelmed me.

秀丽的风光令我深深地陶醉。

3. pleasant [ˈpleznt] adj. 令人愉快的；可喜的；宜人的；吸引人的；友好的；和善的；文雅的。如柯林斯词典上有这么一句话：

The historic feeling of the town makes it a pleasant place to base oneself for summer vacations.

该镇的历史气息让它成为人们夏季度假的好去处。

第二句：I please myself with the graces of the winter scenery, and believe that we are as much touched by it as by the genial influences of summer.

而我却独独喜爱冬日，正如凉爽的夏季打动我们一样，冬季也自有它动人之处。

1. please [pliːz] v. 使满意；使愉快；（常用在as或what、 where等词后）想，选择，喜欢。如柯林斯词典上有这么一句话：

You can't please everybody.

你无法让每个人都满意。

2. be touched by 被……感动。如外研社英语同义词辨析词典上有这么一句话：

The teacher was deeply touched by their desire for knowledge.

他们对知识的渴望深深地打动了那位老师。

3. genial [ˈdʒiːniəl] adj. 友善的；真诚的；亲切的；和蔼可亲的。

第三句：To the attentive eye, each moment of the year has its own beauty, and in the same field, it beholds, every hour, a picture which was never seen before, and which shall never be seen again.

对有心人来说，一年的每一时刻都有自己的美，即使在乡间原野，景色时时变化，每小时所看到的都是空前绝后的好景致。

1. attentive [əˈtentɪv] adj. 注意的；专心的；留心的；关心的；肯帮忙的。如柯林斯词典上有这么一句话：

He wishes the government would be more attentive to detail in their response.

第四句：The heavens change every moment, and reflect their glory or gloom on the plains beneath.

天空变幻无穷，映呈着下界的盛衰枯荣。

1. glory [ˈɡlɔːri] n. 荣誉；光荣；桂冠；（对上帝的）赞颂，赞美，崇拜；壮丽；辉煌；灿烂。如柯林斯词典上有这么一句话：

He came home a rich man, covered in glory.

他发迹还乡，荣归故里。

2. gloom [ɡluːm] n. 忧郁；愁闷；无望；幽暗；黑暗；昏暗。如汉英大词典上有这么一句话：

The future seemed filled with gloom.

前途似乎黯淡无光。

3. beneath [bɪˈniːθ] prep. 在（或往）……下面；在（或往）……下方；（对某人来说）不够好。如柯林斯词典上有这么一句话：

She found pleasure in sitting beneath the trees.

她喜欢坐在树下。

第五句：The state of the crop in the surrounding farms alters the expression of the earth from week to week.

四周田地里的庄稼，每周焕然一新。

1. state [steɪt] n. 状态；状况；情况；国家；州；邦。如牛津词典上有这么一句话：

You're not in a fit state to drive.

你现在的状态不宜开车。

2. alter [ˈɔːltər] v.（使）改变，更改，改动；修改（衣服使更合身）。如牛津词典上有这么一句话：

Nothing can alter the fact that we are to blame.

错在我们，这是无法改变的事实。
