尤达是电影《星球大战》中充满传奇色彩的绝地武士，身材矮小却聪明有力。他训练了绝地武士800多年，在与克隆人的战争中扮演不可或缺的角色。他还指引了卢克·天行者(Luke Skywalker)，并参悟了永生之道。据称，他的名字来自梵语词yoddha，意为“战士”；另一说是来自希伯来语中的yodea，意为“知道的人”。还有另一个说法是，尤达来自于瑜伽(Yoga)一词。

根据牛津在线词典，Yoda一词常被用来指称能体现尤达特征的人，特别是指有智慧的老人、圣人或大师。时报在对高德纳的报道中，提到他钻研计算机程序的奥秘，并将研究心血写成《计算机程序设计艺术》(The Art of Computer Programming)。这套著作目前共有四卷，第一卷于1968年首次亮相。2013年，这部书被《科学美国人》(Scientific American)杂志列为塑造上个世纪科学的书籍，与爱因斯坦、费曼等人的专著并列。比尔·盖茨(Bill Gates)曾说：“如果你能读完整部书，你一定要发给我一份简历。”

值得一提的是，尤达在《星球大战》中经常使用倒装句的语言特色，也成为了用来修饰人物语言特色的形容词。一篇时报报道写道：“佩林表现得完全不合格，显得莫名其妙，只能用尤达大师般的独特语言喋喋不休时，却并没有从整体上让女性的形象大打折扣—一直影响了她和约翰·麦凯恩(John McCain)。麦凯恩参议员，您脑子里到底是怎么想的？”

“But when Palin turned out to be utterly unqualified and unintelligible, spouting her own special Yoda-like language, it did not reflect poorly on women as a whole — only on her and John McCain. What the hell were you thinking, Senator?”
