隐逸的生活似乎在传统意识中一直被认为是幸福的至高境界。但这种孤傲遁世同时也是孤独的，纯粹的隐者实属少数，而少数者的满足不能用来解读普世的幸福模样。有道是小隐隐于野，大隐隐于市。真正的幸福并不隐逸，可以在街市而不是丛林中去寻找。

1. “隐逸的生活”A secluded life，注意这里的冠词a不能丢，指的是“一种怎样的生活”。secluded含义是“与世隔绝的”，如果说“过着隐逸的生活”就是live/lead a secluded life。

2. “而少数者的满足不能用来解读普世的幸福模样”翻译为定语从句whose contentment does not suffice to construe what happiness is for all，这里的what happiness is for all是construe 的名词性宾语从句。

3. “但这种孤傲遁世同时也是孤独的”翻译为让步状语从句although such aloofness and retirement breed loneliness as well，

这里的retirement是retire的名词，含义是“退休；退职；退休年龄；退休生活；（尤指从体育、政治等方面的）退出，引退”。

常见的搭配，retirement age退休年龄；a retirement pension退休金。

4. breed意思包括“交配繁殖；饲养，培育（动植物）；孕育；导致”，在译文breed loneliness as well中取义是“导致”，例如VOA例句：

He said the global fight should not focus on specific religions, but rather on eradicating the root causes that breed terrorism.

他说，全球反恐战争不该只集中在特定地区，而应当铲除滋生恐怖主义的根源。

5. “有道是” As a common saying goes，这是固定表达，注意冠词a不能丢，也可以用 a saying goes that+从句。

6. 小隐隐于野，大隐隐于市 the “lesser hermit” lives in seclusion in the country, the “greater hermit” does so in the city. 

这句翻译大家可以记下来，hermit指的就是“隐士；隐修者；遁世者”。
