walk into a bar可以指进入某处会带来搞笑的内容。A woman可以指杨笠，也可以泛指women女性。
这篇文章主要讲杨笠的，字面意思是女艺人杨笠登上脱口秀舞台，带来了各种调侃的话，翻译的时候可以简洁，翻译为“女艺人杨笠登上了脱口秀舞台”，或者也可以翻译为“女性脱口秀演员杨笠，爆梗迭出”，或者也可以直接翻译为“爆梗迭出”。

1. Stand-up也就是后面说的Stand-up comedy，指“单口喜剧”。“脱口秀”这个译名不对，但是容易记住和宣传，就这样，在国内大家都叫“脱口秀”。不过，在专业文献中还是使用“单口喜剧”。
2. 语法分析：with women centre-stage是with引导的伴随状语，是with sb adj的用法。

第一段：“Men are adorable,” begins Yang Li in a sketch first aired last year. “But mysterious...After all, they can look so average and yet be so full of confidence.” It seemed a gentle dig by the newly crowned “punchline queen” of “Rock and Roast”, a television showstarring amateur comics.
But as Ms Yang’s fans spread the gag, male netizens threw a tantrum. Last month a group of them reported the 28-year-old to the broadcast regulator for “sexism”. An academic at Peking University called Ms Yang and her admirers “internet feminists, the mostemotional and least tolerable people”.

1. sketch：sketch作名词可以表示“素描；小品；概述”，这里具体指一场脱口秀演出。
first aired last year是sketch的后置定语，表示“去年首次播出的”，注意这里的sketch不是指《脱口秀大会》，因为《脱口秀大会》是17年首播的。
sketch这里具体指一场脱口秀演出，first aired last year说明杨笠的这场脱口秀演出是去年首次播出的，不过在翻译的时候first可以省去，这样更符合汉语习惯，更通顺！
2. 熟词偏义：dig常见的含义是“挖掘；凿；搜寻”，这里考察的是它的一个熟词偏义，表示“挖苦；嘲讽”。如金融时报例句：
Before that, Lee made a dig at her single status, asserting that people without children are not qualified to talk about education policy.
此前，李嘲讽她的单身状况，称没有孩子的人没有资格讨论教育政策。
a gentle dig by中的by引出施动者。
3. punchline：（笑话最后的）妙趣横生的语句，金句，妙语；画龙点睛之语。
4. starring是star的现在分词，作动词表示主演。如华尔街日报例句：
The co-production from Columbia Pictures and China Film Group starred Jackie Chan and Will Smith's son Jaden Smith.
该片由成龙和威尔·史密斯的儿子贾登·史密斯主演。
5. comics：可以表示连环画、漫画，这个意思在19年CATTI二笔真题汉译英中考过。
这个也可以表示喜剧演员，今天这里指的是喜剧演员。
Comic还可以作形容词，表示滑稽的，还可以说comical。
7. 固定表达：throw a tantrum美 [ˈtæntrəm] 是固定表达，意思是“发脾气；发怒；大发雷霆”。如金融时报例句：
The tyrant threw a tantrum, but then backed down.
这位暴君大发雷霆，但后来做出了让步。
8. 易错点：reported the 28-year-old to the broadcast regulator for “sexism”这个是report sb to...regulator的用法，表示向什么regulator举报某人。
For引出原因，不过翻译的时候灵活翻译，具体看我的译文。
9. internet feminists：网络女权主义者。还有个词叫网络女性主义（Cyberfeminism）。有人提出网络女权主义的概念，认为网络可以成为反抗父权体制压迫的工具。
9. 易错点：emotional and least tolerable很明显都是形容词people的，也就是形容internet feminists的，我们知道tolerable是指sth或sb让别人无法容忍，它和tolerant有区别，tolerant指没有包容心，所以这里大家不要理解错或翻译错了。
因此least tolerable翻译为最让人没法容忍的。

第二段：Long the stars of Chinese joke-making, men are unhappy about being the butt of it. Chizi, a popular male contestant on “Rock and Roast” with a penchant for boorish jokes about women, sniffed that Ms Yang was “not performing comedy”. Guo Degang, a master of xiangsheng, a witty and often bawdy form of traditional comedy involving banter between two people, recently said he would not recruit women for his troupe (“out of respect”, he said). Very few women perform xiangsheng.

With stand-up, says Evangeline Z, a 27-year-old comedian in Shanghai, “there are no barriers to joining as long as you can talk.” Women bring new themes to the stage. On the latest season of “Rock and Roast”, a vlogger quipped about coping with depression, twins joked aboutbody-shaming and a car engineer about her career.

2. 易错点：With stand-up, “there are no barriers to joining as long as you can talk.”是一起的，字面意思是有了……，就没有……
join后面没有宾语，但通过前面的female comics，我们可以判断这里说的是进入喜剧行业。
3. quip：是调侃、嘲弄的意思。
4. body-shaming：字面意思是身材羞愧，在这个脱口秀上叫“身材焦虑”。

第四段：The show, which began in 2017, has been a boost for Chinese stand-up and female participation in it. Evangeline Z says the form of comedy is “huge” in Shanghai. And she reckons up to half of the city’s 50-odd weekly performances are by women. But male and female comics alike warn spectators that what they are about to say could be offensive and they should not take offence.

第五段：Female comedians elicit stronger reactions from the audience than male ones, says Xiao Ju. Many people are still shocked when women swear on stage. For fear of offending, many stick to crowd-pleasing themes like families and jobs.

2. swear on stage：swear有个意思是说脏话，这里就是这个意思。If someone swears, they use language that is considered to be rude or offensive, usually because they are angry.
比如我们说“破口大骂是不对的。”就可以说：
It's wrong to swear and shout.
如果要表示直言不讳、大胆发言，可以说be outspoken，如Sixth Tone上这句：
Earlier this year, the 28-year-old comedian won praise for being outspoken about gender issues in her performances on the third season of hit online stand-up comedy series “Rock & Roast.”

第六段：Ms Yang has used the backlash against her gag to create a new one. It involves an exchange with a male colleague whoapprovingly notes her testing of men’s limits. Her mock-incredulous riposte: “Do men have limits?”

原文the backlash against her gag不是反抗杨笠说的话，backlash在这里是第二个意思，即批评的意思。
3. 易错点：the backlash against her gag中是the backlash特指，而且是her gag单数，而不是her gags（gag是可数名词），说明the backlash against her gag是特指对她那番话的批评。
那番话是开头的：
“男人不光美好，还特别神秘……毕竟，为什么他看起来那么普通，却那么自信？”
a new one中的one指gag，理解为“段子、调侃的话”。
4. 翻译思维：It involves在这里不能直译，不然不通顺。
it指代the new one，involve常见的含义是“包含；涉及”，It involves an exchange with a male colleague的字面意思是这个新段子涉及和一位男同事的交流。
这句实际上是在说明新段子的由来，需要灵活翻译，具体看译文。
5. mock-incredulous [ɪnˈkredʒələs]：意思是假装不相信地，故作不信地。mock-表示模仿的，假装的，比如mock exam 模拟考试；mock conference 模拟会议；incredulous这个词表示是不相信的，怀疑的，举个例子：
This means that a lot of people are just left completely dissatisfied and incredulous.
这意味着很多人会感到不满和怀疑。
6. riposte美 [rɪˈpoʊst]：可以作动词，表示尖锐回答；机智地反驳，巧妙反驳。比如词典这句：
'It's tough at the top,' he said.
'It's tougher at the bottom,' riposted the billionaire.
“身居高位很辛苦，”他说。“在底层更辛苦，”这个亿万富翁机敏地回答道。
这个词还可以作名词，今天“Her mock-incredulous riposte”中就是名词，字面意思是她故作不信的机智反驳是，其中冒号引出riposte的具体内容。
7. 翻译思维：英语喜静，汉语喜动。approvingly notes her testing of men’s limits和Her mock-incredulous riposte: “Do men have limits?”的翻译没有按原文结构翻译，不然太死板，需要动化翻译：
Riposte名词转换为动词，即机智地反驳道。相应地，mock-incredulous翻译为故作不信。
