I am just one of the thousands of alumni of Tsinghua University, and although I am no longer working there, every time Tsinghua is mentioned, I would get as excited aswhen I was young, and can't seem to stop talking about it. What is it that makes Tsinghua so attractive? Its beautiful campus? Its advanced facilities? But all these are not lacking in other universities. Or its long history? But a good many universities in the world even boast histories of several hundred years. Having thought it over and over again, I come to the conclusion that it is the people of Tsinghua, or rather, the special relationship between its people and Chinese history, that makes it so attractive.

第一句：我只是清华几万校友中的一个，现已不在清华工作，然而一说起这所学校，至今仍像年轻时候一样兴奋，话也像说不完似的。

1. Alumni [əˈlʌmnaɪ] （统称）校友，毕业生，是alumnus [əˈlʌmnəs]的复数，如经济学人例句：

But the influence of TFA's alumni, supporters say, is at least as important as the direct impact in the classroom.

但是他们的支持者认为，TFA的毕业生们的影响力至少能与课堂上的直接教学匹敌。

2. Every time后跟句子，表示“每当......，一...就...”，如柯林斯词典例句：

3. Lacking [ˈlækɪŋ] 没有；匮乏；缺乏；不在场，得不到，如柯林斯词典例句：

Certain vital information is lacking in the report.

该报告缺少某些关键信息。

4. A good many +名词复数，表示许多，大量，众多，如柯林斯词典例句：

We’ve both had a good many beers.

我俩都喝了很多啤酒。

5. Boast [boʊst] 有（值得自豪的东西）；自夸；自吹自擂，如金融时报例句：

In a few months, Beijing will boast the world’s largest airport terminal, a behemoth designed by Norman Foster, the British architect.

再过几个月，北京将建成世界上最大的机场航站楼。这个庞然大物是英国建筑师诺曼-福斯特（Norman Foster）设计的。

第三句后半部分：想来想去，还是由于清华的人，或者说清华人和中国历史的特殊关联。

Having thought it over and over again, I come to the conclusion that it is the people of Tsinghua, or rather, the special relationship between its people and Chinese history, that makes it so attractive.

1. Over and over again，副词，表示“一再，再三，反复”，如柯林斯词典例句：

“I don’t understand it,” he said, over and over again.

“我不明白，”他反复不停地说。

2. Come to the conclusion that 得出结论，得到的结论是，如金融时报例句：

With experience, I have come to the conclusion that true success in a long-term venture has four important ingredients.

凭借以往的经验，我得出了这样一个结论：一项长期投资的真正成功须具备4个要素。

3. Rather [ˈræðər] （纠正所说的话或提供更确切的信息）更确切地讲，更准确地说，如金融时报例句：

This undoubtedly understates, or rather lags, the damage.

该数据无疑低估了，或者更准确地说是滞后了实际受损情况。

4. It is ... that ...强调句型，如汉英大词典例句：

It is labour that creates the world.

是劳动创造了世界。
